In the Introduction pages we find short interesting subjects such as ‘Geography, Climate and Vegetation’ (p. 2-8), The Orchid Flora (p. 8-11), Affinities to Other Regions (p. 11) and Endemics (p. 11-13).
Attention is given to ‘History of the Orchidology of Myanmar’, ‘Uses of Myanmar Orchids’, ‘Conservation’, ‘Habitat Destruction’, ‘Myanmar Orchids in Local and International Trade’, ‘Legislation’ (local and Cites), ‘In situ and Ex situ Conservation’.
This subjects are perhaps a bit too complicated for a field guide as this: ‘Classification’ (p. 35-37), the same can be said about the ‘Key to the Orchid Groups Represented in Myanmar’ (p. 39-43).
The introductory pages are followed by a list of ‘The Genera of Orchids of Myanmar illustrated in this Book’ (p. 43-50) in total 65 genera.
The chapter ‘A Selection of Species’ (p. 51-167) describes and illustrates, one per page, 116 selected Myanmar orchid species. Many of the photographs were taken in nature habitat, some in collections. This guide ends with a ‘Glossary’ (p. 168-172), ‘Further Reading’ (Bibliography) (p. 173), ‘Acknowledgements’ (p. 174), ‘Photo Credits’ (p. 175), ‘General Index’ (p. 176), ‘Index of Scientific Names’ (p. 177-181) and an ‘Appendix’ (p. 182-196): a Preliminary Checklist of the Orchidaceae of Myanmar.
Conclusion.
Illustrations in this guide to the orchids in Myanmar give an idea about orchids in this for a long time politically isolated country.
With its many photos and minimal texts, this guide is suitable for those new to orchids. The guide can also serve as a travel companion in Myanmar.

De illustraties in deze ‘A Guide to Orchids of Myanmar’ geven een idee over de Orchideeën in dit gedurende lange tijd politiek geïsoleerde land. Veel foto's en weinig tekst maken deze guide geschikt voor hen die voor het eerst iets over orchideeën te weten komen. De gids kan een reisgezel zijn in Myanmar.
