Het moet in 1919 geweest zijn dat Quisumbing voor het eerst een artikel over orchideeën schreef in Philippine National Weekly. Dat was ook de eerste keer dat een Filippijnse wetenschapper iets over orchideeën schreef. De volgende jaren legde Quisumbing zich de taak op om bijna alle Filippijnse orchideeën te classificeren, te identificeren en te beschrijven in de typische stijl die taxonomen toen gebruikten. En aangezien hij ervan uitging dat de wereld in de toekomst ook aandacht zou schenken aan andere dan de toen reeds gekende orchideeën zoals Vanda (nu Euanthe) sanderiana of Phalaenopsis amabilis, beschreef hij ook de in die tijd niet of minder gekende orchideeënsoorten. Hij was stichter van het Bureau of Science Herbarium waarvan hij later de directeur werd. In 1947 werd hij medestichter van de Filippijnse orchideeënvereniging waarvan hij gedurende twintig jaar voorzitter was. Maar bovenal is de reeks artikels die hij over orchideeën schreef voor meerdere internationale en nationale tijdschriften zoals het Philippine Journal of Science van groot belang.
Alle artikels, die door hem gepubliceerd werden, zijn in deze set, die uit twee volumes bestaat, gebundeld
Deze geschriften vormen, ook al is de gebruikte nomenclatuur gedeeltelijk achterhaald, samen met 'Orchidiana Philippiniana' van Helen L. Valmayor en ’The Orchids of the Philippines' van Jim Cootes de basis van de kennis over de orchideeën uit de Filippijnen.

Quisumbing wrote in 1919 his first article about orchids in the Philippine National Weekly.
This was the first time ever that a Philippine scientist wrote something about orchids. For the next years it was Quisumbings aim to classify all Philippine orchids, to identify them and to describe them in the typical style taxonomists used those days. One of his statements was that in the future the world also would have interest in other orchids than Phalaenopsis amabilis or Vanda (now Euanthe) sanderiana, so he described lesser known Philippine orchids to.
Quisumbing was founder of the Bureau of Science Herbarium where he became director on later date. In 1947 he was co-founder of the Philippine Orchid Society of which he was president for 20 years. Above all this, the articles he published nationally and internationally (f.i. in the Philippine Journal of Science) ware of great importance.
All his articles are compiled in this 2 sets volume by Helen L. Valmayor.
His writings, even if the nomenclature he uses is a bit out of date, are, with 'Orchidiana Philippiniana' by Helen L. Valmayor and 'The Orchids of the Philippines' by Jim Cootes, the basic knowledge for the amateur of orchids from the Philippines.
